- Why should I use a travel agent?
Planning a vacation can be confusing, overwhelming & certainly time-consuming. A
travel agent not only has the ability to arrange all types of transportation (and access to
a number of non-public booking systems), but also may be able to save you money with
early booking discounts, special fares, etc..
- Why should I choose you for my travel agent?
My wish is for you to be free from the stress of travel research and planning. I realize
that there is no shortage of do-it-yourself travel websites out there but I like to think that I can provide a personalized type of service that they cannot. I have a wonderful team of support at my host agency & can provide assistance with just about anything related to
travel - hotels, cruises, vacation packages, all-inclusive resorts, airline ticketing, rental
cars, insurance protection, passport applications & other domestic & foreign travel
requirements. I can be reached 24 hours/day 7 days/week via telephone, e-mail, or instant message at 805-264-2824 travlquest@live.com or for IM divefishey@att.net
- When should I book my trip?
I usually suggest booking a trip as early as possible. Rates tend to go up over time -
not down. In general, I believe that the earlier you book, the better. If a rate or fare is
lowered and I am able to adjust the reservation without penalty, I will happily do so.
Conversely - there are often last minute deals to be found as well. If you can travel at
short notice, this option might be something you consider
- What do you charge?
Most people do not realize the little amount that travel agents get when booking hotels, car rental and vacation packages. We generally only average about 5-10% of the basic cost of the travel. So, although I do not charge for research, I do tack on a small fee on difficult trips and multiple bookings. I charge a nominal fee of $100 per section, and for Airline tickets only I charge a fee of $15 for single tickets and $25 for multiple bookings.
I know, why should you pay me when you can do it yourself?. If you went into a lawyers office or doctors office you would not expect to get advice for free, so why should you expect that of a travel professional. We spend hours researching your needs and sometimes get only $10 or $20 commission. If you have any questions on the fees that will be charged please do not hesitate to ask, I try and be fair and reasonable.
- Do I have to pay for my trip in full?
Usually, a deposit will hold your vacation plans for you unless your departure date is
within 30-45 days in which case payment in full may be necessary.
- How should I pay for my vacation?
Using a credit card is the simplest way to pay.
- What type of documents do I need to travel?
At the very least, all passengers 18 and older to present valid and unexpired government-issued photo identification (federal, state or local) - a driver's license, for example. For international travel, you will be required to have a valid passport. Policies regarding this are changing all of the time and I recommend you view the U.S. Department of State website for up-to-date information. I will work with you to ensure that you have what you need for your travel destination.
- What is group travel?
Group Travel is a block of rooms/seats that a travel agent has blocked out to sell at a reduced price. This is different then a tour group or package.
- What is a Tour Group or Package?
A Tour Group or package is a group of like minded travelers that go to the same destinations, and take in the same tours, highlighted sights and dining choices the entire trip.
- What is a cruise/tour?
A cruise tour is a cruise usually to an exotic location like Alaska, South America, Asia, that also has a land tour attached to either the beginning or end of the cruise. This allows you to not only enjoy a luxurious cruise to the initial destination, but also to explore another desination or two while "you are in the area!"
- What is the difference between a vacation package and dive travel package?
A vacation package may or may not include various activities like scuba diving. Dive travel packages are built around diving. The participants, dive almost everyday and the price includes dives and dive services.
- Is insurance for my vacation necessary?
I always recommend it. Information on trip insurance will be provided at the time of
booking. If insurance is declined, I will ask you to sign a waiver stating that you
understand the consequences of declining.
